Reading copies verses
collector’s
We have thousands of collectable books in stock in
various states of condition with prices to meet any budget or taste. Whether you
are interested in a certain subject and are looking for books to read and
condition/edition will not be an issue we have rated all of our books for easy
identification of condition.
READING COPY: About all it is good for.
Or, it may interest collectors or modern first editions who keep their pristine
copies on a shelf safe from prying hands but who may still want to read
Hemingway or Faulkner.
Reading
copies come in handy for research. a copy that shows heavy wear could be any edition
(1st, 2nd, 3rd…ect.)
All pages intacted and readable with cover damage,
may be a tear here or there, jacket missing, basically you read it and hide it.
FAIR/POOR: Worn and used. Cover soiled,
scuffed, evidence of repairs, shaken, perhaps a page torn here or there.
The book has definitely been around.
GOOD:
Obviously read. Perhaps the covers show moderate wear, a hinge is
cracked in front or back; some minor spine fading might be present, the
binding scuffed. Perhaps the book is even a little shaken, not quite as
tight as it used to be. All in all, the condition shows the book has been
around for a while and used. No really major defects.
VERY GOOD:
Definitely showing wear, but not damaged. Usually a clean, tight
copy. Most collectible books fit this category. Our opinion “Very Good” is
slightly bumped corners, slightly rubbed/scratched cover art, one or two small
tears to jacket no larger than a ¼” is considered within the parameters of a
very good condition description.
FINE: Nearly
new. In our opinion a “Fine” condition book may have been gently read with
no obvious signs of wear.
MINT:
As new. Right off the press. Our mint books will be just that. We do not
like to throw around the term “Mint”. A mint condition book in our opinion will
be one that is still sealed in the publisher’s original shrink wrap or still
contained in its original sealed shipping carton or a shipping carton that has
been opened by the previous owner and the book is in “Fine” condition would
still be considered “Mint”.
CONDITION RATING IS A
MATTER OF OPINION.
In an attempt to give the
best possible description of each book we may overlap condition terms.
“Good-Very Good” for example would indicate that the book is closer to “Good”
condition Than “Fine” condition and is not quite “Very Good” having a little
more wear than the person rating the book feels comfortable with in giving a
solid “Very Good” rating.
